Well, really!

A sometimes cynical look at official (and other) silliness

When to start?

When I visit someone's blog and start reading I tend to assume that it's been around for a while and that I'm climbing aboard – as a traveller might join a train – when it's part way through its journey. But of course every blog has to start from somewhere, and there comes the scary moment of the first post.

I've been mulling over this one (the blog, not the post) for a year or two, and it remains to be seen where it goes. I note that it was as long ago as January 2000 that I registered a domain name intended for a 'diary' type website commenting on the news of the day, and spent some time writing software to help me publish comments as HTML pages. In a word, a blog, although that word had been coined only a couple of years earlier and I hadn't actually heard it at the time. As so often happens, I got busy on other things and the 'blog' never started.

So here we are. I've overcome the inertia at last. If anyone's reading: Welcome aboard!
